A few thoughtful steps are all it takes to set up your Ledger device and take control of your crypto. Let’s make your first move a secure one.
Set up your LedgerKeep your keys offline. Stay in control.
A SIMPLE, SECURE SETUP
Your Ledger device puts you in charge of your private keys. Take your time with setup, follow the instructions on your device, and keep your recovery phrase to yourself.

Download Ledger Live only from Ledger’s official website. It is the companion app you’ll use to set up your device, add accounts, and manage your portfolio.
Follow the prompts on the device itself to choose a PIN. Keep it private. Your Ledger device will ask for this PIN whenever you unlock it.
Your device will generate a unique 24-word recovery phrase. Write it down in the correct order and store it offline somewhere private and secure.
Important: Never share your 24-word recovery phrase with anyone. Ledger will never ask you to reveal it, type it into a website, or share it with support.
A BETTER WAY TO HOLD THE KEYS
Crypto ownership begins with control of your private keys. A Ledger hardware wallet keeps those keys protected on the device, while Ledger Live gives you a place to view accounts and manage supported assets. You approve transactions on the device, where you can review what you’re signing.
Self-custody also means responsibility. Your PIN helps protect access to your device, and your recovery phrase is the backup that can restore access if your device is lost or damaged. Anyone who gets that phrase may be able to access your assets, so treat it like the keys to a safe: keep it offline, private, and away from cameras, cloud storage, and messaging apps.

Download Ledger Live through Ledger’s official website and keep the app up to date. Be cautious of search ads, unexpected direct messages, and lookalike support accounts. If a message creates urgency or asks you to reveal your recovery phrase, stop and verify through official Ledger channels instead.
Before approving a transaction, read the details displayed on your Ledger device. Check the address and amount carefully; a computer or phone screen alone is not the final authority. If something looks unfamiliar, reject it and take a moment to understand what you are being asked to approve.
Your recovery phrase is not a password to reset or send to support. Store the written phrase somewhere secure and private, separate from your device. Never photograph it or enter it into a website, app, or form. Ledger staff cannot recover it for you—and no legitimate support request needs it.
